International pageant winner Srinidhi Shetty is the latest sensation of the Indian film industry. With only success to her kitty, the diva has always excelled in every aspect of her life. The Bengaluru beauty who holds an engineering degree worked in an M.N.C. before setting foot in the pageant world. With her national win at Miss Diva, she represented our country at the prestigious Miss Supranational contest in 2016 and brought home the second crown.
Flooded with various films and modeling opportunities after her international glory, the stunning beauty eventually signed as the female lead in K.G.F.: Chapter 1. The film received a stupendous response from across the country and was dubbed in languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. The recent release of the teaser of K.G.F.: Chapter 2 broke the Youtube record for 'Most Viewed Movie Teaser within 24 hours' with over 72 million views making it the world's 5th most-watched video on the day of its release.
Srinidhi, who has been celebrating the tremendous response over the teaser of K.G.F: Chapter 2, opens up about her experience being part of the period action film, career choices, her Tamil debut film Cobra and more.
After conquering the pageant world, you had a fabulous start to your film career with your debut in the megahit film K.G.F: Chapter 1; how did it feel to be part of a blockbuster?
It's every actor's dream to be part of something big and for that to happen in the first project is simply amazing. I really feel blessed to begin my career with a movie called 'K.G.F: Chapter 1' and will always be grateful to the team who gave me such an excellent opportunity.
Once again, we all are awaiting a super duper hit with 'K.G.F. Chapter 2', and seeing the vast excitement just after the teaser was released, the film is anticipated to be a huge success! What was your initial reaction after receiving such a response?
With the response, the support, love, and appreciation we received from the audience for K.G.F: Chapter 1, we knew that fans were eagerly awaiting Chapter 2. We envisioned a positive response; however, the tremendous response we received just after the teaser was released was beyond imagination! The teaser had over 150 million views in just a short span, breaking various records. It's an absolute achievement for all of us; we were utterly surprised and thrilled with the audience's response to the teaser. So ya, we feel loved and are eagerly waiting for the movie to hit the theaters now.
While shooting for the K.G.F: Chapter 1, we sure know you would have had your doubts on how the movie would be received, but now how did it feel shooting for the sequel of a blockbuster?
So when I received the opportunity to work in K.G.F: Chapter 1, I took it up and had absolutely no doubts about the movie as it was a Prashanth Neel directorial. I have been a fan of his work 'Ugramm' released in 2014, which was also a super hit film here in Karnataka, and people loved it, and I was one of them who really loved the movie. So when I was told that Prashanth would be directing the film, I absolutely knew that this movie would be exceptional. With Yash as the lead and the film being produced under one of the state's great production houses -- Hombale production, it just all seemed right. So I had no doubts and blindly put my faith into the project I knew would be fantastic.
With such a huge fan base for K.G.F: Chapter 1 was we were unsure if we would match the expectations in K.G.F Chapter 2. Nevertheless, as the shoot progressed, I witnessed the scale at which the movie was being made and knew this was much more magnificent than Chapter 1 for sure, and I really hope the audiences feel the same.
We have heard that you rejected almost seven films to be a part of K.G.F. Chapter 2; does it feel like a loss to let off so many opportunities?
(Giggling) Even though I have heard that I rejected seven films, I am not sure how we arrived at that number. But, yes, few movies came my way; however, either the stories did not work out, some scripts weren't as exciting, and had to let go of few due to date contrainst. But, when Vikram sir's movie came along, I was more than happy to be a part of it because they had an excellent team, and most importantly, the script was fabulous, so I took it up.
I do not feel any loss to let go of few opportunities as I firmly believe it's worth the wait. I signed up for K.G.F: Chapter 1 in 2016, and now it's 2021, but in four and a half years, I had only one release, and many people keep asking me why I haven't signed up for more movies. But I have been patiently waiting and dedicated myself to very few projects because I know it's worth the wait, and I know how big this project is and how beautiful it will turn out to be.
We wish to rename success as Srinidhi – with yet another megahit in the making (Cobra), is it what you touch that's gold or the treasure that always finds you? How do you choose such remarkable films?
Well, I just got lucky; (she quipped) I always believe and say it's my mother's blessing and God's grace for who I am and what I have. And as far as the movie's performance is concerned, it's a different ball game altogether—a lot of people have strived day and night to make the film a great success, and I am grateful to have been a part of such an incredible team.
You are an inspiration to many girls across the country, excelling in academics, bagging a job at an M.N.C. to achieving international glory with your win at Miss Supranational 2016 to captivating screen-presence with your role in your debut film! What is your advice to future pageant aspirants and fans?
There is not a single soul without a desire or aspiration. And to make your dream a fulfillment, you need to elevate your desire to the extent that you need to have sleepless nights till you achieve it. So, do what you absolutely love and are unconditionally passionate about, commit yourself to achieve it, and you will surely find your path to success—best wishes and much love to all.
