Three weeks into 2021 local casinos said a change in sports betting guidelines that went into effect Jan. 1 has been great for business. The change made it so players could sign up to gamble on sports through casino apps. Before, players had to visit the casino first to make an account. Prairie Meadows said revenue for the month of January is much higher than what they saw in January 2020. "We've started out strong through the first 15 days here at Prairie Meadows," said Derron Heldt, VP of Racing at Prairie Meadows Casino. "We're up 70% year over year."That 70% increase comes out to about $3 million. Heldt said the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs being in the NFL playoffs has also encouraged players to make some bets.
