West Bengal to get first lot of Covaxin today

The state will get the first consignment of Covaxin on Friday. State health department officials said the vials will be used to vaccinate the second tier of recipients, including police personnel and other frontline workers.

KOLKATA: The state will get the first consignment of Covaxin on Friday. State health department officials said the vials will be used to vaccinate the second tier of recipients, including police personnel and other frontline workers.
"We expect the shipment to reach central vaccine store at Bagbazar by around 3 pm and have kept the deep freezers ready to take in the consignment," said a source at the state health department.

An official at Kolkata airport confirmed two consignments of Covaxin aggregating 23 boxes and weighing 700 kg would arrive by AirAsia India flight around 1.30pm on Friday. This is the third consignment of vaccines to reach the state and intended for the second phase of immunization of police personnel. Around 2.5 lakh police personnel are listed for immunization.
Of the 23 boxes, 15 boxes are expected to be for police personnel under the state government and the remaining for central forces.
