BERHAMPUR: Police on Thursday busted a factory manufacturing adulterated spices like turmeric and chilli powder and seized huge quantities of adulterated spices and different ingredients from three different places in Bada Bazaar here. Police detained three persons, including the owner of the processing unit, in this connection.
Police raided three places, including Lazmi Nursigh Sahi, where the duplicate spice processing unit was unearthed, Prahallad Nagar and Raja Sahi where the spices were packed and stocked respectively.
Some chemicals, waste materials like dust of wood, rice powder were used to prepare chilli, turmeric powders and other curry spices.
The accused persons supplied the adulterated spices in the name of a popular brand, said a police officer. Police, however, did not give details as the raids were going on and they were waiting for the verification of the genuineness of the seized spices. “We are verifying the purity of the spices,” said a police officer. Police would also verify the trade licence of the owner of the processing unit.
Police had unearthed duplicate spices processing units in different areas of Cuttack, where the owners used chemical colours to manufacture turmeric and chilli powders
