The oldest licensed distillery on Scotland’s isle of Islay and luxury car marquee Aston Martin has unveiled their first collaborative creation: Black Bowmore DB5 1964.
For South Africans having a desire to get their hands on this rare scotch, they will have to shell out a cool R980 000.00 for the pleasure.
This striking concept brings together an iconic whisky and a legendary car in a bottle of equal parts, featuring exceptional single malt and a genuine Aston Martin DB5 piston.
But no driver’s license is required to rev your engine for this one.
With only 25 bottles for sale, this exceptionally rare 31-Year-Old Black Bowmore DB5 1964 is a celebration of time and a definitive moment in history for both Bowmore and Aston Martin.
Celebrating 1964
That’s the year when Bowmore first started distilling its ever-rare Black Bowmore releases.
It’s also when Aston Martin saw its DB5 car become an automotive icon, thanks to its debut in the James Bond classic, ‘Goldfinger’ which starred Sean Connery.
Since then, Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig have all driven Aston Martin models in their respective Bond films.
First distilled on November 5, 1964, Black Bowmore has become one of the rarest and most sought-after single malt whiskies ever created.
Shared values and passions
“We are committed to creating our own individual products with an absolute and definitive attention to detail. By bringing them together, we believe we can enhance and amplify the experiences we can offer our customers,” said Bowmore distillery manager David Turner of the collaboration with Aston Martin.
This latest release represents only the sixth bottling of this exquisite single malt.
It is also a “celebration of shared values and passions, as it showcases great innovation and invention,” said Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin Lagonda.
Since 1993, there have only been about six thousand bottles of Black Bowmore made available, adding to the desirability of this iconic whisky.
Can such a pleasure really be worth $65K?
That is indeed the eye-popping price tag of this new release from the brand, one that has been aged for 31 years.
Without a thimble’s worth to sample, we’ll have to take their word about the flavor.
To quote the brand’s tasting notes, you should expect “intense flavors of mango, passion fruit, and acacia honey interwoven with a powerful combination of coffee and tobacco smoke.”
If you can afford this rarity, we’re not sure if you should sip it, share it, or display it on your mantle as a kind of trophy and a conversation piece.
If you are going to indulge, or rather sip, the folks at Bowmore suggests enjoying its rare release neat or just with a drop or two of water, just “to appreciate the incredible depth of flavor,” you know.
