6,753 new Covid cases in Kerala, TPR at 11.6%

Covid-19 was reported among 6,753 people in the state on Friday, taking the total cases reported to 8,77,282. Among the new cases, 6,109 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection was not traceable for 510.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Covid-19 was reported among 6,753 people in the state on Friday, taking the total cases reported to 8,77,282. Among the new cases, 6,109 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection was not traceable for 510. There are 62 healthcare professionals among those infected and 72 people have arrived from outside the state.
Meanwhile, 6,108 patients have recovered from the disease.
A total of 19 deaths occurred in the last couple of days were confirmed as due to Covid-19, taking the death toll in the state to 3,565.
One more person who has returned from the UK to Kannur has been detected with the new strain of Covid virus. With this, 10 cases have been found in the state with the new strain.
In the last 24 hours, 58,057 samples were tested with a testpositivity rate of 11.63%. So far 8,03,094 people have recovered from the infection and 70,395 patients are undergoing treatment. Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases —1,018.
12,120 health workers vaccinated
As many as 12,120 healthcare workers were vaccinated on Friday, taking the total number of health workers who got vaccinated to 47,893. The vaccination took place in 141 centres, of which 16 were in Ernakulam, 12 in Thiruvananthapuram and 11 each in Kollam and Kozhikode, 10 centres in Kasaragod and nine each in other districts. The highest number of vaccinations took place in Ernakulam 1,367.
