GHAZIABAD: A city resident has accused a sub-inspector attached with the
Delhi Police and his accomplices of allegedly trying to extort Rs 10 lakh from him. The accused has been identified as SI Somendra Singh, his wife, Anju and two other accomplices.
The victim, Virendra Sharma, told police that on August 1, 2020, he had purchased land of 107 sqm in Rajendra Nagar area in Sahibabad along with a woman.
When Sharma was making the boundary wall of the plot, the SI and his associates intercepted and asked the worker to stop the work. When Sharma came to know about it, he called up the SI and asked him about the matter who in turn asked him to sell the plot. However, when he refused to do so, the
cop started threatening him. Sharma also met Singh several times, but the latter maintained that he sold the
plot or gave him Rs 10 lakh as a security deposit against the plot.
“The inspector also threatened to register a fake case against me or get me killed in an encounter if I do not follow his orders,” he said.
When the victim did not budge, Singh filed a complaint against Sharma and his family with the
GDA accusing him of doing illegal construction on the plot, alleged Sharma.
Based on the complaint, the SI, Anju and two other accomplices have been booked under
IPC Section 386 (
extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt).
