A teacher from government senior secondary school at Ghalib Kalan village of Jagraon in Ludhiana died of Covid-19 at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Saturday.
Sohan Singh, prinicipal of the school said that Tejinder Kaur (40), was admitted at DMCH after her condition deteriorated some days ago.
The principal said till now a total of 12 teachers and three students from the school have tested positive for Covid.
“Of 39 teachers in our school, 12 have tested positive till now. Three students have also tested positive and rest are being tested. School is closed for classes till February 4,” the principal said.
He added that condition of all other teachers tested positive was fine.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Neeru Katyal too confirmed that 12 teachers and three students of the school have tested positive for infection.
The school has now been shut and the samples of other students and the staff was being taken for testing, she said.
Schools in Punjab have been opened for classes 5 to 12. They are scheduled to reopen for classes 3 and 4 from January 27 and for classes 1 and 2 from February 1.
