    308 Twitter handles created in Pakistan to disrupt rally: Delhi Police

    New Delhi: More than 300 Twitter handles have been generated from Pakistan to disrupt the tractor rally proposed by protesting farmers on Republic Day, Delhi Police said on Sunday, a day after granting permission to farmers to hold the rally.

    Addressing a presser, Deependra Pathak, special commissioner of police (intelligence) said “308 twitter handles have been generated from Pakistan with hashtag farmersprotest and tractorrally during January 13 to 18”. “Through intelligence and various other agencies, we have been continuously getting inputs regarding threats to create disturbance in the tractor rally,” he said.

    The police said more than 13,000 tractors with nearly 50,000 farmers have assembled at Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur borders over the past one week. The numbers of tractors are expected to rise, it said, but only those granted permission will be allowed to participate in the rally.

    On Sunday, Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla held a review with Delhi Police over the proposed route for the tractor rally as well as Republic Day.

    Pathak said at the presser that the rally will be conducted after the Republic Day celebrations conclude. He said tractors will enter Delhi from Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur borders. From Singhu, the rally will pass through Kanjhawala, Bawana, Auchandi border, KMP Expressway and then return to Singhu, he said, adding that the Delhi Police is working in close coordination with UP and Haryana police to ensure that the farmers return to the sites after the rally.

    The tractors will be allowed to cover nearly 100 kilometres inside Delhi during the rally, said the police. It said the rally will be escorted by Delhi Police and that farmer leaders will be responsible for the peaceful conduct of the procession. “Traffic advisory on the proposed routes will be issued advising commuters to avoid the route. Delhi police commissioner SN Shrivastava instructed central armed police forces and police officials to be prepared for another law and order duty “at short notice” after the completion of the official Republic Day parade.
