Savvy mother-of-four turns spare room into a VERY organised nursery for homeschooling in a week for just £350 - using wall shelves from Ikea and a H&M peg rail

Parents have been forced to resume the chaotic routine of homeschooling their children amid the third national lockdown.

But Emily Webb, 36, from Devizes, Wiltshire, has renovated her spare room into a school nursery in a bid to make the task of homeschooling less hectic, and impressively only spent £350. 

The mother-of-four has spent lockdown with her three older children Nalani, 16, Leyna, 12 and Florence, five, all taking e-lessons from home.

But she said it was 'chaos' racing around multiple rooms in her house attempting to help all three of her daughters with their school work.

So Emily had the ingenious idea of transforming her spare room into a dedicated space where her daughters could work, while their younger brother Henry, one, could play. 

'During the first lockdown we focused on the two older girls and setting up their bedrooms for home learning,' explained Emily, who runs an Etsy business from home. 'This current lockdown, we now have Florence in home school too.

'I love organisation and needed a space that was equipped with everything for home learning but also could accommodate Henry so he could play while I focus on teaching Florence.

'The first week of lockdown was chaos, moving from room to room to try and teach and help my three girls and amuse Henry.' 

As well as helping her streamline her homeschooling chaos, the DIY renovation also did not break the bank, as she managed to pull it off on the bargain budget of £350.

The savvy shopper sourced her floor and wall units for a bargain £42 total, while her rattan light shade cost her a mere one pound from IKEA.

In an attempt to make the nursery as organised as possible, Emily also bought an array of storage crates, which all cost less than £10 individually, and rattan baskets.

Speaking about the neat and tidy room, she continued: 'The organisation is brilliant. Everything we need is stored in the pullout drawers and easy to access.

'Home schooling has become a joy, something we are excited to do because we are all set up for it. The children love the new playroom/home learning room.

The mother added that homeschooling during lockdown now feels much more manageable and her kids (all pictured) are thrilled that they can learn and play together in one room

'There is always something for them to do. I have lots of sustainable open-ended play toys for them to make up their own games, which they love.' 

Emily also made sure that the room was not bland and decorated it with an array of colourful prints, rugs, a large rattan mirror and practical baskets.

Amongst her bargain buys were also a peg rail from H&M, giving the room a professional schooling vibe, a braided pear basket from Ferm Living and decorative wicker houses from OlliElla.

The businesswoman only spent a total of £350 on the picturesque homeschooling area, and the project impressively took her less than a week.

Emily explained that she had an idea of what she wanted to achieve so spent a few evenings ordering her items for home delivery, before transforming the entire room in just one weekend. 

She continued: 'By midweek, I had an idea of what I wanted to achieve and spent the next couple of evenings placing online orders for home delivery to transform the room.

'The weekend came and I spent all of it decorating the room and unpacking and building units.

'In a weekend, we achieved a massive amount and made the space a completely usable area which was a fresh, calming and relaxing environment ready to home teach on Monday.' 

Emily later shared pictures of the finished project to Facebook, where fellow parents were quick to compliment her on her ingenious idea.

One person gushed:  'Absolutely beautiful.'

While another wrote: 'This is the dream. Maybe one day,' and a third simply penned, 'Incredible!!'.

A fourth follower commented: 'What lucky children you have, beautiful room.

Speaking about the response, Emily said: 'It was really nice to see such a positive response on social media, it's been a great way to discuss with other parents how to flip a room, gather ideas about storage spaces and to share where to find some of the lovely decorative items in the room that I've sourced.'

The mother added that homeschooling during lockdown now feels much more manageable and her kids are thrilled that they can learn and play together in one room.
