EuroCham discussed safety matter during a meeting with Cambodia Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.

On 21 January 2021 the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia participated in the 7th Project Advisory Board meeting on “Enhancing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards in Construction Sector”. This consultative meeting was presided over by H.E. Dr Huy Hansong, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and Chairman of the PAB working group. There were also representatives from related ministries, private sector, international organisation, and civil society.

In this meeting, PAB members provided input on the draft national policy on occupational health and safety of Cambodia, which will be finalised and submitted to the Royal Government for implementation.

During the discussion, EuroCham particularly highlighted one of its recommendations in the 2019 White Book, namely to consider implementing a new regulation that requires Safety Officers employed by construction companies to undergo mandatory OSH training. This will ensure that all Safety Officers employed in Cambodia have completed the same basic level of safety training and will be aware of new OSH regulations as they develop, which could be enforced on construction sites.
