Indianapolis crime: Coroner identifies man killed in early Monday shooting on east side

Update: 

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 25-year-old Derell Brown. He died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen and his death was ruled a homicide.

Indianapolis police are investigating an early Monday shooting that left one man dead on the east side.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the area of East 30th Street and North German Church Road on a report of a person shot shortly after 2 a.m., police said.

Upon arrival, an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds was located and transported to an area hospital in critical condition. 

Police said the man died shortly after arriving at the hospital. His name has not been released.

The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation by homicide detectives. The Marion County Coroner's Office is working to determine the official cause and manner of death.
