25 students of PU college in Kodagu test positive for infection

MADIKERI/ MYSURU: In the first such incident at any educational institution in the state, 25 students of the Shri Morarji Desai Residential Science Pre University College, Garagandur in Kodagu district tested positive for Covid-19.
While 24 of them have been admitted to the district Covid-19 hospital in Madikeri, one is at home. All those who tested positive are boys.
The test results of 22 staff, including teachers, are awaited. It has 38 boys and 38 girls.
The college, run by the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society, was opened to conduct classes for II PU students from January 1.
According to the authorities, on January 21, a student developed fever and he went home. On January 23, he tested positive for Covid-19 and the college authorities decided to test all students.
The test results were sent to the college late Tuesday evening. All other students are at the hostel in isolation. “All the children are fine. While a few are symptomatic, others are asymptomatic,” said Kodagu District Health Officer Dr Mohan. On Wednesday, officials of the health department and district administration went to the college. The hostel and colleges have been sanitised. Former minister and MLA Appachu Ranjan also went there and asked the authorities to ensure that all students and staff are tested. “All students are getting good treatment,” he said.
