Tamil Nadu: Unidentified persons hurl country made bombs at police station in Tirunelveli city
MADURAI: Unidentified persons hurled country-made bombs in Thachanallur police station in Tirunelveli city on Sunday, while a community leader visited the station to register his signature.
In all three bombs were hurled and two of them went off, while one more was recovered and diffused by the police.
Unidentified persons, who came on three bikes at 10.30 am, hurled them and escaped from the spot.

A police officer said that Devendrakula Ezhuchi Iyakkam president Kannabiraan went to the station to register his signature as he was out on a condition bail. There were many criminal cases pending against him.
Police suspect that the bombs were hurled to threaten or attack him.
There were no injuries or damage reported due to the incident.
Deputy commissioner of police (law and order), Tirunelveli City, A Saravanan said that the bombs were low intensity ones. Only clothes and explosive substances were used in the crude bombs. There were no stones or nails.
“We have collected CCTV footage, which shows the faces of the suspects. Four special teams have been formed to find them. They will be arrested soon,” he said.

A police officer said that while escaping they dropped a bomb on the road, which went off later when a vehicle ran over it. A case was registered under various sections and the explosives act.
A posse of police were deployed at the station to ease tension. Bomb detection and disposal squad checked the station premises and the vacant lands adjacent to it.
Kannabiraan has been visiting the station around the same time for the past few days to register his signature.
