MADURAI: A 37-year-old Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus conductor was hacked to death by his neighbours in Virudhunagar district.
The deceased has been identified as Santhana Mahalingam,37, of Kumaralingapuram village. He was a bus conductor attached to the Sattur TNSTC depot.
He pruned branches of a tree next to his home on Monday. One of the branches fell on an electricity line, resulting in disconnection of power supply to a few houses.

His neighbours Chandrasekar and brother Gunasekar questioned him. A verbal argument broke out between them. Other neighbours pacified them and asked them to leave the place.
The brothers picked up a quarrel with Santhana Mahalingam on Monday night and attacked him with sharp weapons.
Based on a complaint files by Mahalingam’s wife Sudha, the Vachakarapatti police registered a case.
