LUCKNOW: After a gap of more than nine months, the cycle of Covid-19 deaths has finally broken in the state.
Additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad informed that no Covid-19 death was reported in the past 24 hours. However, the total number of deaths in the state reached 8,691.
“After a gap of over nine months, the cycle of Covid-19 deaths has broken as no fatality was reported in the past 24 hours,” Prasad said.

He said, 36 districts recorded no new case in the past 24 hours even as 113 cases were reported in the same duration from the remaining 38 districts. “With 243 recoveries in 24 hours, the total number of recovered persons in the state mounted to 5,89,565, which is over 98% of the total burden of cases in the state,” he said.
Informing that the declining cases and increasing recoveries has left the state with just 3,306 active infections, Prasad said Kasganj has become the first district to have zero active cases.
As per the official Covid-19 bulletin, 11 districts in the state are left with less than 10 active cases. These are: Shravasti (1), Mahoba (2), Hamirpur (2), Chitrakoot (2), Baghpat
(2), Kaushambi (2), Farrukhabad (4) Hathras (5), Kannauj (7), Sitapur (8) and Maharajganj (9).

Officials attributed the improving Covid-19 graph in the state to chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s effective strategy in dealing with the pandemic. “A recovery rate of more than 98% speaks for the success of this strategy,” said an official spokesperson.
Listing out some more achievements of the UP’s covid control strategy, a statement said: “While UP has become the first state in the country to vaccinate more than 6.75 lakh people, surveillance teams have reached out to more than 85% of the population — a record in its own way.”
Officials, however, reiterated that the drop in cases in no way meant that the risk of the pandemic has gone. “The risk cannot be ruled out till the required herd immunity is achieved. Till then, Covid-19 prevention protocol is the best bet,” said Prasad, adding that people adhering to safety norms have also contributed in bringing down the new cases.
