Silda (Jhargram): Purulia MP and
BJP leader Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato faced public wrath in
Jhargram’s Silda on Monday morning during a roadblock by residents who were demanding drinking water. They threatened to boycott the assembly elections if their demand was not met.
Sources said Mahato was mobbed when he came out of his car to ask the protesters to lift the blockade so that he could proceed to his destination.
“The state government and the civic administration have to solve the (drinking water) problem. What can an MP do?” he reportedly said. The agitators asked him what his party was doing to help them in a crisis. “You can’t shirk responsibility,” a protester said.
The public outburst came after local BJP MP Kunar Hembram didn’t show up for talks with residents on the drinking water crisis.
