CHIKKAMAGALURU: An incident of a man allegedly abusing a 13-year-old
minor girl repeatedly for a fortnight and recording the
abuse has come to light.
Police have arrested three people, including the prime accused, under the provisions of
Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Cops claim only one person has abused her, and he forwarded the clip to two of his friends.
The girl belongs to
Scheduled Caste and is the daughter of daily wage workers.
The incident came to light after the parents informed the village head and sought help from the district women and childcare centre. The district child protection officer lodged a complaint on February 9.
Mallanduru police then launched an investigation based on the girl’s complaint and arrested the accused.
Mallanduru police told STOI the girl has accused villager Sandesh of abusing her and making a
video to
blackmail her. He allegedly used the video to repeatedly abuse her over 15 days. He also sent the video to his two friends.
Chikkamagaluru superintendent of police HA Macchindra said Sandesh and his friends —Charan and Praveen— have been arrested. All the three accused are labourers and are aged between 21 and 25 years.
Police are also investigating if the video has been forwarded to more people.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
