LUCKNOW: A former BSP leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Azamgarh on late Monday evening over a rivalry between two families belonging to the Khundanpur village in Azamgarh district.
Police claimed that the deceased, Kalamuddin had a criminal background and was accused in two murder cases.
According to the police, Kalamuddin was going to the village in his car under Mehnagar police station when unidentified persons shot at him.
He was rushed to a trauma center in Varanasi and died during treatment.
Azamgarh SP Sudhir Kumar Singh said, “Kalamuddin (60) had criminal record and had been booked under Gangster Act. He had gone to jail twice. The murder is result of a conflict between families of Kalamuddin and Kamran.”
“Recently, he had shifted from Azamgarh to Lucknow. In 1984, someone from Kamran side had been killed and Kalamuddin was named. Kamran had made an attempt to kill Kalamuddin’s son. In 2012, Kamran was allegedly murdered by Kalamuddin in 2012,” said the SP.
Police said Kalamuddin had contested the Nizamabad Vidhan Sabha seat in the past on BSP ticket. “An FIR on charges of murder against five persons has been registered on the complaint of victim’s son Furquan,” said the SP.
