LUCKNOW: The lone survivor in the Unnao case, in which three girls were poisoned, was discharged from a private hospital in Kanpur on Friday.
Villagers flocked her home in Baburha village in Asoha of Unnao as the 17-year-old arrived in the afternoon.
The girl and her two cousins were poisoned by a local youth, Vinay, and his aide on February 17. Her cousins died on the way to hospital the same day.
“Vinay first offered us 'namkeen' and when we refused to take it, he gave us water to drink.
First, my 13-year-old sister drank the water, then the 16-year-old one and finally I also took it. Soon, we fainted,” the survivor told the reporters.
Unnao SP Anand Kulkarni told TOI that the girl was discharged around 2pm on Friday from the Kanpur private hospital where she was admitted for treatment. She was kept in a special ward for 24 hours and was under observation.
Meanwhile, police took the two accused to the scene of crime on Friday to reconstruct the sequence of events. Police, however, said Vinay was not cooperating in the investigation.
“We got custody of the two accused for eight hours – from 9am to 5pm. We used the time to recreate the crime scene to fill the gaps in the narrative of how the whole incident unfolded. We asked Vinay where the girls were and how he reached them and then after giving them water laced with poison pulled their bodies and dumped it. All loose ends in our narrative were filled after recreation of the crime scene with the accused being present,” the SP said.

“However, Vinay did not reveal the exact source of getting the herbicide (poison). He kept insisting that it was found in a packet,” said Kulkarni.
SP said sufficient evidence has been corroborated and a watertight case would be prepared after getting other reports from the forensic laboratory.
Bodies of two Dalit girls, aged 13 and 16, were found in the family’s field in Baburha village while the 17-year-old survivor was found in an unconscious state.
The postmortem report ruled out sexual assault and pointed to poisoning as the probable cause of their deaths. Cops had also recovered packets of chips, and water bottles from the fields.
