5 Avatar: The Last Airbender Movies And Shows We'd Love To See From Avatar Studios

Avatar: The Last Airbender

What month is this again? Is it December? Because it might as well be Christmas if you’re a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender. In case you haven’t heard yet, Nickelodeon is set to launch Avatar Studios, which will have series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko as co-chief creative officers (Squee!) of all future projects. And not only that, but their first project is going to be an animated movie within the realm of Avatar (I think I might pass out!). The new material will be on both Nickelodeon and Paramount+, as well as theatrical releases, so yeah. Life is pretty rad sometimes.

Now, this announcement is actually coming off the heels of that failed Netflix live-action Avatar show, which I wonder if we're actually getting now. That’s fine by me, though, since I was only “cautiously optimistic” about that show once the creators left. But I’m positively THROUGH THE ROOF optimistic with this current news. I’ve actually already done an article about what kind of TV shows I’d love to see in the future, but those were pie in the sky ideas since I never thought this would actually happen. So, here are some more realistic movies and shows I’d love to see Avatar Studios tackle. Yip yip!

Order of the White Lotus

An Order of The White Lotus TV Show

This… could be interesting. The Order of The White Lotus is a secret society that primarily seeks out the next Avatar in the cycle, but also works to maintain order and bring about peace throughout the land. They communicate through the fictitious game, Pai Sho, and even work within different nations that may be warring with each other. One of its most prominent members is Iroh, who helped liberate Ba Sing Se from the Fire Nation. This just furthers the purpose of the White Lotus since Iroh belongs to the Fire Nation. Because wrong is wrong, and Iroh believes that good should always triumph

Personally, I would love to see either a show dedicated to all the secret missions of The White Lotus during Iroh’s time, or maybe even The White Lotus AFTER Korra dies. This of course would set up the next Avatar in the cycle, so maybe it would be better as a movie instead, but I would love to see it as a TV series even more. It was really cool to learn more about The White Lotus in the Kyoshi novels, so I want to find out even more about them, especially if it means that we’d possibly get more Iroh. Oh, and speaking of Iroh.

Iroh

A Young Iroh Movie

If you ask most fans who their favorite character on Avatar: The Last Airbender is, they’ll probably say Toph. Then Zuko. But then, likely at number 3, will be Uncle Iroh. And it’s because he’s such a well-layered and complex character. Over the course of his life, he’s seen some stuff as the Fire Lord’s brother, and that’s exactly what I would love to see in a movie dedicated to his character. What was it like to willingly fight for the bad guys?

Because over the course of Avatar: The Last Airbender, we find a man who is dealing with the consequences of his role in the war. In one of the very best episodes “The Tales of Ba Sing Se,” we learn that Iroh lost his son in a battle, and what it has done to him as both a man, and as a surrogate uncle to Zuko. I would love to see that Iroh, especially since it would add even more depth to his character. Everybody loves Iroh because he’s so heroic to stand against the Fire Nation, but I’d love to see a movie where he is actually more of a villain than anything else. He wasn’t always a good guy, you know.

Toph's Metalbending Academy

Toph's Metalbending Academy Adventures TV Show

We actually learn quite a bit about Toph’s Metalbending Academy in the excellent comics, which leads up to the Metalbending Police Force in The Legend of Korra. But, you know, I’m kind of selfish and want to learn even more. Toph is my favorite character from the series, after all. More Toph just means more awesomeness.

Honestly, I would love to see a series that is really just Toph teaching her disciples. Since this would be following the events of ATLA, the rest of Team Avatar wouldn’t really even have to be present in this series, and Toph could have her own little adventures. Filler, you say? Sure, but I could watch Toph in anything. Couldn’t you?

A Kyoshi Warrior

A Kyoshi Warriors Movie

The Kyoshi Warriors have always been one of my favorite aspects of the Avatar Universe. This group of women (and sometimes men, like Sokka), use their opponents' strength against them since not everybody can be a powerhouse like Avatar Kyoshi herself. It would be really cool to see the Kyoshi Warriors outside of the Hundred Year War, and have them up against their own challenges.

This is also kind of tackled in the graphic novels, but I would love to see a whole movie dedicated to the Kyoshi Warriors that could either be set in the world of Aang’s Team Avatar (meaning more Ty Lee!) or, way after the events of ATLA and maybe even spilling into The Legend of Korra. A boy can dream, can’t he?

Adult Aang

Aang’s Team Avatar, All Grown Up TV Show

Lastly, I’m just going to put this on here since I know this is the show that most people want, but can the fans finally get a version of Aang’s Team Avatar, but all grown up? There are plenty of fans who don’t like The Legend of Korra and really just wanted more of the same with a follow-up to Avatar: The Last Airbender, so can’t they get it already?

Now, this is not me, of course, since I actually prefer The Legend of Korra to Avatar: The Last Airbender. But I know plenty of fans who want nothing more than an adult version of Aang’s team Avatar. Personally, I wouldn’t be opposed to this, but I honestly think (and hope) that the show’s co-creators choose a different, more exciting route than just doing an Aang’s Team Avatar, all grown-up TV show. Call me crazy, but I think this would be the least interesting direction to take the series in now that the creators have their own Avatar Studio to work with.

But that may just be me. What possible directions would you like to see Avatar Studios take? Sound off in the poll!
