KANPUR: The wife of a corporator and their two minor children were set ablaze allegedly by husband of a lady constable on late Sunday night.
The husband of the lady constable resides as a tenant in the corporator's house in Nehru Nagar under the limits of Akbarpur Kotwali police station in Kanpur Dehat district.
According to police, the two children of the corporator, however, succumbed to wounds, while his wife and injured husband of a lady constable are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kanpur.

Police said that the incident took place while Archana (32) wife of a corporator Jitendra Yadav was cooking food. Her two children including daughter Akshita (4) and son Hanu (17 months) were sitting with her, while her husband Jitendra was present inside his bedroom.
"Suddenly, Avneesh, the husband of a lady constable Usha, arrived at the spot after setting afire corporator Jitendra's wife and their two children," said police.
After hearing screams, the Yadav and his neighbours rushed to the spot and alerted the police after rescuing them.
The police reached the spot and admitted the corporator's wife and their two minor children to a hospital in Kanpur.
Meanwhile, Avneesh, who on being chased upon by locals, tried to flee, was run over by a speeding vehicle at a highway and sustained critical injuries. He too was admitted to a hospital in Kanpur.

"However, the corporator's two children succumbed to burn wounds during the treatment, while his wife and lady constable's husband are recuperating," the police said.
"During preliminary investigations, it came to fore that Avneesh has been reeling under depression since the past few days," said Keshav Kumar Choudhary, superintendent of police, Kanpur Dehat.
"Investigations are continuing to ascertain as to what actually prompted lady constable's husband to resort to this extreme step," said SP.
"The lady constable, Usha, was on duty at the Akbarpur Kotwali police station when the incident took place," said a police officer.
