UP: Six killed, 16 injured in accident in Kanpur Dehat

KANPUR: At least six persons were killed and 16 others suffered injuries when a truck carrying them overturned in Maukhaas village under the limits of Bhognipur Kotwali police station in Kanpur Dehat district late on Monday night.
The deceased included three minors.
The victims, mostly labourers, and natives of Hamirpur and Ghatampur, were going to work in potato farms in Sirsaganj area of Firozabad in a truck when the mishap took place.
The police identified the deceased as Ramesh (41), Pinki (45), Chandawati (14) of Barnaav area of Ghatampur area of Kanpur and Radha (42), Komal (8) and Suraj (4), of Hamirpur district.
Of the 16 injured, eight were taken to district hospital as their condition was described as critical.
Eight others are recuperating at a community health centre in Pukhrayan.
Superintendent of police Kanpur Dehat, Keshav Kumar Choudhary, said investigations were under way to establish the cause of the mishap.
He said the priority was to provide best possible medical help to the injured.
