Campaigning for the BJP in Malda’s Gazole, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday claimed “lawlessness” in West Bengal, triggering sharp retort from ruling TMC leaders who hit back with videos of the latest incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras where a man on bail in molestation case allegedly killed the victim’s father.

Accusing the Mamata Banerjee government of “appeasement politics”, Adityanath alleged that incidents of ”love jihad” were not being stopped by the TMC government in West Bengal.

“Appeasement politics for the sake of votebank has endangered the security of not only West Bengal but also of the country. The TMC government has a problem with refugees getting citizenship but has no issue with illegal immigrants coming to the state,” Adityanath said at the rally.

Claiming that raising of ”Jai Shri Ram” slogan was not allowed in West Bengal, Adityanath said, “’Love jihad’ incidents are taking place in Bengal. In Uttar Pradesh, we have made a law to stop such incidents, but the TMC government hee has failed to stop ‘love jihad’,” he said.

He also said that once BJP comes to power in West Bengal, it will stop the smuggling of cows “within 24 hours”.

Festive offer

“We have taken several steps to stop cow slaughter in Uttar Pradesh… If the BJP comes to power in Bengal, we will stop cow smuggling and illegal slaughterhouses in the state within 24 hours,” he said.

“The people of India don’t take any other name other than Ram. Those who are Ram-drohi do not have a place here. I want to tell Mamata Didi, see what happened to those who opposed the Ram Temple,” Adityanath said.

The TMC hit back at the UP chief minister. State ministers Shashi Panja and Firhad Hakim, TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and cricketer Manoj Tiwary, who recently joined the TMC, all tweeted videos of the latest incident of crime in Hathras with a hashtag “BJP Hatao, Beti Bachao (Remove BJP, Save Girls)”.

“The count of dreadful incidents being reported from BJP-ruled UP is unending! The people of UP are suffering as the state of law and order is in shambles, yet Yogi Adityanath is in Bengal??” Dastidar tweeted.

“I fail to understand how the safety and security of this woman’s family could not be prioritised for a CM but Bengal polls? Certainly! Curious, if Bengal BJP leaders imagine Yogi Adityanath to be the “protector” of women’s security and rights in Bengal,” Hakim tweeted.
