Girl pushed in dry well rescued in Kanpur village

KANPUR: A nine-year-old girl of Baidi Alipur village in the Kanpur district spent two days without food and water in a 20-foot-deep dry well after a local youth pushed her into it over a trivial issue on Sunday.
The accused has been arrested and booked for molestation and attempt to murder.
The girl, who was rescued on Tuesday by police, is undergoing treatment at a community health centre in Bilhaur.
The girl, a resident of Baidi Alipur, is said to have told the police that on February 28 she had taken the goat to the field for grazing. Then, she was beaten up and pushed into the well by its owner Satyam (25).
“The girl has told the police that she was plucking ‘ber’ [jujube] leaves to feed her goat in Satyam's field, when he arrived and warned her not to do so. An argument followed and he pushed her into the dry well and he ran away,” said SP (Rural) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava.
He added, “Satyam has been arrested and he has confessed that in a fit of rage he pushed the girl into the well.”
Following a complaint by the girl’s parents on Sunday, eight police teams were formed to trace the missing girl.
“On Tuesday, a sub-inspector traced the girl in the well during the search. With the help of the villagers, the girl was pulled out and taken to Bilhaur Community Health Centre (CHC),” police said.
Based on the statement of the survivor, a case has been registered against the accused.
“We have booked him under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), SC/ST Act and POCSO Act and sent him to jail,” police said.
“Initially, we found her blood pressure to be low. She was put on intravenous fluids. Though she has gone weak, she is doing well,” said a doctor at the CHC.
