Lorraine Kelly is supporting Marcus Rashford's school meals campaign by working with a Scots charity to ensure hungry schoolchildren are fed.

At the height of the pandemic in April 2020, 370 million children globally were suddenly deprived access to nutritious meals when schools shut due to COVID-19.

Scots based global charity Mary's Meals adapted quickly, distributing food in communities, ensuring children who rely on Mary’s Meals received them at home which had become places of learning while classrooms were closed.

Some schools have since re-opened and Mary’s Meals is safely reaching 1.6 million children in 19 countries, whether at school or at home.

Daytime TV host Lorraine decided to help out by sharing one of her mother's favourite recipes in time for Mother's Day - in a bid to encourage people to buy a special Mothers Day card for £15.90 - and enable one hungry child to be fed for a whole school year with Mary's Meals.

Every print gift card will come with the special recipe from Lorraine Kelly whose dish reminds her of heading home.

Her Mum’s Chicken Soup is still a staple in the Kelly family today and is filled with all the heart-warming classics - carrots, leeks, and delicious tender chicken.

Lorraine said: " My mum makes this every time I go home. It’s proper comfort food and takes me back to my childhood."

Her recipe will also be available online along with others from Ferne McCann and Nadiya Hussain, all inspired by 'The Food We Grew Up On.'

Lorraine has praised Marcus Rashford's school meal campaign before saying 'love him'.

She joins Britain’s Celebrity Best Home Cook finalist Ferne who has shared her Nannie Connie’s Sausage Waaaah - a delicious casserole given its quirky name by the children of the McCann family growing up.

Ferne says that the nutritious dish is packed with lots of delicious veg, swimming in a rich tomato sauce and topped with succulent sausage meat.

Ferne said of her dish: "This was My Nannie Connie’s recipe that she used to make for my mum. It’s a really homely, cosy dinner that my mum often made for me and my sister.

I don’t know why we called it Sausage Waaaah but it’s stuck and when I make this for Sunday she knows it by this name too. It’s just one of those recipes that reminds me of childhood and is a real comfort meal."

GBBO favourite Nadiya’s Hussain has picked her Mum's Bengali Korma. Nadiya grew up with the delicious aroma of the beautiful chicken dish, with warm flavours of cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, and the perfect hit of green chilli.

Nadiya said: "The korma I grew up with had an aroma that took over the house and hit you in the face when you walked into the kitchen. This is one of the recipes that says ‘home’ to me because nobody cooks this dish like Mum does."
