Jilted lover kills girl’s mother in Odisha's Kalahandi

BALANGIR: A jilted lover allegedly killed the girl’s mother and attacked the girl at a village under Kesinga police limits in Kalahandi district on Monday. The girl was severely injured in the attack.
The accused Tilkar Nayak attacked the girl and her mother when they were returning from the village pond after taking bath.
“In order to take revenge after being rejected by the girl, the accused tried to kill her with a sharp weapon but the mother fell prey to the attack while trying to save her daughter,” said Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, IIC, Kesinga police station.
According to police, Tilkar had a long relationship with the girl of the same village. The girl broke all relations in recently and warned him not to contact her further.
Tilkar tried many times to call up the girl but got no response from her. Police said at 7 am, Tilkar saw the girl and her mother returning from the village pond. Tilkar suddenly attacked her, injuring her on the hand.
Her mother rushed to save her and received a deep cut on her neck, said a police official. He was arrested. Due to excessive bleeding, the girl’s mother succumbed to her injuries on the spot, said Mahapatra.
