NOIDA: Two persons accused of orchestrating a multi-crore
fraud of offering seats in medical colleges against money have surrendered in courts in Kanpur and Mahoba in connection with other cases.
The two accused have been identified as Pankaj Kumar Khatik and Adarsh Singh. The gang allegedly took money from students who had appeared in NEET and promised to offer berths in
MBBS courses at the Government Medical College in Banda and Motilal Nehru Medical College in Allahabad.
The duo allegedly took Rs 25-30 lakh from each of the student and fled with the money.
Police confirmed that while Pankaj had surrendered in a court in Mahoba early last month, Adarsh had given himself up before a Kanpur court on February 27. Both have criminal antecedents, the police said.
An officer serving with the Indian Air Force has also been detained by Noida police for allegedly transporting one of the complainants in the case Motilal college, where a deal was struck with the two accused.
The complainant, Goverdhan Lal Srivastava, and his grandson alleged that they were cheated of Rs 34 lakh. “The accused had come in the officer’s vehicle on December 14 and accompanied us till a few kilometres before Lucknow. On the way, the car hit a street dog and the officer said he needed to get the vehicle fixed. We continued the journey in another vehicle,” Srivastava said.
Police confirmed that the officer’s car was indeed involved in the case. They quoted the officer as saying that his car had been hired through a private agency.
Additional DCP (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said they had called the investigating officer of the case lodged by Srivastava in Bareilly. “If the accused officer’s involvement is found, he too will be booked,” he added.
