UP hooch deaths: Four cops suspended in Pratapgarh

Four policemen - including station house officer, a sub-inspector and two beat constables - posted at Nawabganj police station of Pratapgarh district in UP have been placed under suspension on Monday.

PRAYAGRAJ: Four policemen — including station house officer, a sub-inspector and two beat constables — posted at Nawabganj police station of Pratapgarh district in UP have been placed under suspension on Monday.
The suspension follows the death of four persons, including a couple, who allegedly died after consuming spurious liquor in Manoharpur Rampur Dabi vilage under the limits of Sangramgarh police station of Pratapgarh district in past 48 hours (Saturday and Sunday) .

(Prayagraj range) IG KP Singh told TOI that “Initial investigations revealed that four people including a woman died after consuming excess amounts of spurious liquor in Manohapur Rampur Dabi village in the past 48 hours."
"A case under appropriate sections has been registered with the police station concerned and police have also arrested three persons including the seller regarding the incident," he said.
Singh further added, “Police have collected the sample of the spurious liquor and sent it for laboratory examination and tests."
Investigations also revealed that these persons had purchased the spurious liquor pouches from a shop located at village Nayapurwa -Gopalpur under the limits of Nawabganj police station on Saturday evening.
On Saturday night, the condition of a 55-year-old woman identified as Sunita Saroj deteriorated at around 9:30pm and she was admitted to Sangramgarh community health centre for treatment.

She, however, died during the treatment.
Police have sent the body of the woman to ascertain the cause of death.
Police, meanwhile, received information that the condition of three other persons including Jawahar Lal ( 56 years and husband of Sunita), Vijay Kumar (35) and Ram Prasad (40), who were also undergoing treatment, also died of consuming spurious liquor.
Police said that all these four persons had purchased spurious liquor pouches on March 13 evening from a seller identified as Babulal Patel, a resident of Nayapurwa (Nawabganj).
The condition of five others, who too consumed spurious liquor, was stated to be stable.
