Telangana MLC polls: Vani Devi in the lead on second day of counting

The final result is expected on Thursday as big-sized ballot papers and jumbo ballot boxes were used for polling

Hyderabad: TRS candidates were in the lead on the second day of counting of votes polled for the legislative council graduate constituencies.

Surabhi Vani Devi from Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahbubnagar was leading by 4,444 votes after the fourth round. In Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituency, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy by 18,589 votes in the fifth round.

The Election Commission said that the counting of the first preference votes would be completed by Friday morning. If no candidate gets a majority, the second preference vote counting would be taken up immediately.

In Hyderabad, BJP candidate N. Ramchander Rao was second behind the TRS’s Vani, Independent candidate Teenmar Mallanna was second in the Nalgonda seat followed by Telangana Jana Samiti leader Prof. M. Kodandaram with 49,200 votes.

The highest number of postal ballot votes, 205, were polled in Ranga Reddy, out of a total 906 in the Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahbubnagar constituency. As many as 1,917 postal ballot votes were polled in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituency of which 1,838 votes were verified as valid.
The counting of votes for constituencies was going at the Saroornagar indoor stadium and for Warangal constituency at the market yard in Nalgonda.
