AGAWAM – Agawam High School, is hosting a science, technology, engineering, art, and math (S.T.E.A.M.) exhibition to showcase the work that students and teachers are continuing to do during these unfortunate times.

In previous years the exhibition happens in December during the school’s Winter Arts Festival.

“Even though we have less opportunities to hold in-person events, we still believe there is a need to give our students a way to showcase all of their hard work. Our students deserve this type of validation and recognition. It has been an extremely difficult time for students and teachers,” said Amber Waters, who teaches drawing and painting.

Matthew Stinson, who teaches web design and media, and digital photography, said that things must carry on through the pandemic. “Students and teachers are still producing content in new and innovative ways, so it is a prime time to get work out to the public so they can see the positive things we are doing.”

The teachers who contributed to making the S.T.E.A.M. exhibit happen are Waters, Stinson, Daniel Balbony, Dianna DeCaro, Deb Florek, Christophe Heustis, and Giovanni Russo.

Waters shared that each teacher was asked to choose a few pieces highlighting things they are working on in their current class. She said hands-on subjects like theirs face challenges with students being in-person and remote and believe that all the high school teachers are doing an amazing job delivering curriculum and exceptional learning experiences for students during these times.

Over 60 students were selected to have their work showcased on the virtual exhibit.
