Video footage appears to shows a girl aged 16 tied to her alleged rapist and paraded through an Indian village to shame her.

The teenager can be seen roped up to a man and walking through a crowd, who reportedly beat her and the accused in Madhya Pradesh.

The girl’s family are said to be among those who forced her to walk while watching crowds chanted abuse.

The clip has gone viral and caused outrage, with reports suggesting that six people have since been arrested, including the accused, who is in his early 20s.

Police freed the girl when they arrived at the scene.

Dozens of men were shouting ‘long live Mother India’ as she was led along the dirt road in the Alirajpur district.

Video show the girl sat down in front of her alleged attacker before one member of the crowd stamps on his head.

Police officer Dilip Singh Bilwal was quoted as saying two cases had been registered.

He explained to PTI: ‘One of the cases was registered against the 21-year-old man who is accused of rape.

‘Another First Incidence Report was registered against family members of the girl and villagers for parading her in the village and beating her.’

India is well known for having a shocking record on sexual violence, with a notorious gang rape and killing of a student in 2012 causing outrage in the country and around the world.
