BENGALURU: Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials discovered stone tools in Shivamogga district used for farming thousands of years ago. Officials believe the remains are from the Neolithic period.
The articles were found in the fields of a farmer, KR Venkatesh of Kallahalli in Bhadravati taluk.
ASI officials said they found a black stone (17cm long and 6cm wide), which was probably used to cut crops during 2500 BC-1800 BC.

ASI assistant director R Shejeshwara said, “While cleaning the fields, they (farmers) found shards of pots as well but threw them away not realising their importance. When we came to know about it, we dug up the fields and found the stones.”
“In the recent past, we have found 27 objects, possibly of the Neolithic Age, across 10 locations in the district. Some of these tools were used as axes,” Shejeshwara added.
