Nvidia Offering Free Training During GTC 21 Including Automated Vehicle Software

This article is more than 3 years old.

The auto industry is changing faster right now than it has in many decades. Between connectivity, electrification and automation, the modern vehicle is becoming ever more software defined. It is oft-stated that today’s vehicles can contain upwards of 100 million lines of code and someone has to write that code. Nvidia’s NVDA GPU Technology Conference (GTC) is a great opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in both software and hardware for vehicles and other applications and this year’s virtual event is absolutely free starting April 12, 2021.

Prior to 2020, GTC was actually a series of events held throughout the year in multiple countries including the U.S. Germany and China. For obvious reasons only online event which took place at the same time as the usual spring conference in San Jose near the company’s headquarters. With the pandemic still making people sick on a daily basis, Nvidia is sticking with the virtual conference format.

Festivities kick off on Monday April 12 at 11:30am EDT with CEO Jensen Huang’s keynote where all the big product and technology announcements happen. Then over the remainder of the week and into the following week there are well over 1,000 sessions including talks and panels from a wide range of Nvidia partners as well as the engineers developing Nvidia’s hardware and software. Among the speakers are Drew Bagnell, chief scientist at Aurora, Hildegard Wortmann, board member at Audi, Tiho Rimac, lead engineer at Rimac, and Omer Kielaf, CEO at Innoviz.

Lest you think that GTC is all about developing video games, Nvidia has extended its reach far and wide over the past two decades into data centers, movie making, finance, medical research and of course automotive. More than 80 of the sessions are specifically related to automotive including simulation, automated vehicles, infotainment systems and more.

The vast majority of companies currently involved developing automated driving systems are incorporating at least some Nvidia silicon and software into their platforms and some like Mercedes-Benz are planning to use the full Nvidia stack for future models.

The free classes being led by Nvidia engineers are an excellent opportunity to learn more about how to work with Nvidia’s hardware and software platforms. Thousands of engineers in the auto industry have lost their jobs in recent years as automakers have cut back on development of traditional internal combustion engines and transmissions, but these same companies are now recruiting thousands of software engineers so this is a great time to learn new skills.

Registration for Nvidia GTC is open now at nvidia.com/en-us/gtc/.
