Celebrate Earth Day with cleanup

DISTRICT SEEKS VOLUNTEERS: The Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste Management District has kicked off its litter cleanup campaign. The program, called the Great American Cleanup, is part of a national campaign through Keep America Beautiful. Local volunteers receive trash bags, litter grabbers, safety vests and gloves. All cleanup volunteers will receive an Earth Day T-shirt while supplies last as a thank you gift. Service groups, neighborhood clubs, schools, Scouts and communities seek out littered areas and then register their cleanup date to receive supplies. TNP SEEKS VOLUNTEERS: Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership is seeking volunteers to lead the 2021 citywide spring cleanup April 24 in neighborhoods throughout the city. Organizing assistance, garbage bags, pickers and gloves will be provided. Participants will receive a free reusable shopping bag and T-shirt. LIBRARY WEEK: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles is celebrating National Library Week. A neighborhood scavenger hunt will be Monday through April 25. People can find all 10 items on the scavenger hunt list and take a picture of the prettiest flower they see. Email to mckinley@mcklib.org and the library will post it on social media so everyone can share. The list will be available on the library’s website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter on Monday. Deadline to submit photos is April 25.

SOCIETY TO MEET: Johnston Township Historical Society will meet 7 p.m Tuesday at the town hall. Masks and social distancing will be required.

LIBRARIAN RECOGNIZED: The Hubbard Public Library’s children’s librarian, Mary Anne Russo, has been recognized by the American Library Association. Russo was named a “Star” by the ALA Galaxy of Stars program this year. The program recognizes, celebrates and honors stellar librarians.
