MOORESVILLE — The Annual Dinner of the Networking Business Women of Morgan County was held April 8 at The House cafe at 329 Indianapolis Road in Mooresville. Phil and Jennifer Taylor, who have operated The House, a faith-based restaurant, have been at that location for the past three years. They provided the club with homemade chicken alfredo and a roast beef dish plus salad in the main dining area.

The occasion was to welcome new members and swear in new officers, as well as take care of other business, including the scholarship winner.

President Pamela Siddons had presented revised bylaws for the club, saying that there wasn’t much need for the paper applications for membership, since email information could be used.

Tina Ayers agreed to repeat another term as treasurer. The new secretary will be Diane Hubbard, who didn’t attend the dinner. Ashley Westerhold will serve as vice-president. Each woman took an oath of service by candlelight and received a yellow rose.

NBW Business Woman of the Year was not chosen, but Jan Brown, committee chairperson asked members to send her nominees for the award by email, and the woman would be named at the May meeting.

Brown and members Denise Aspin, Dawn Wright and Lori Craig, with some help from Rebecca Williams, worked on the scholarship applications. Seven were from Martinsville High School and three came from Monrovia High School.

Craig said two girls were considered finalists: Sasha Brown from Martinsville and Morgan Waltz from Monrovia. They are chosen by GPA, accomplishments, community involvement, need, club memberships and leadership roles. She sent a rubric of the scoring to the NBW executive committee. After some discussion, members voted to choose Morgan Waltz as the scholarship winner. Applicants must show an interest in business as a career.

New members welcomed were Chrystal Rogers, Jen Gruver, Ashley Westerhold, Felicia Ross and Brittani Bentley.

Meetings are held the second Thursday of every month, alternately in Mooresville and Martinsville from 11:30 a.m. to 1 Pam., sometimes with speakers on educational business or charity topics. Dues are $35 a year. Guests are always welcome. Those interested in joining can email tiayers1997@gmail.com
