Uttar Pradesh: Violence erupts after polling in Hathras
Several residents of the village turned violent after one person, who was allegedly picked up by the police, was badly beaten up.
AGRA: Violence erupted in Hathras after polling hours when residents of Tharora village attacked the Sehpau police station and pelted stones on police personnel. One police personnel was also allegedly thrashed.
According to local journalists, several residents of the village turned violent after one person, who was allegedly picked up by the police, was badly beaten up. While police officials were not available for comments, videos uploaded on social media showed a man, whose identity was not immediately known, lying on the ground motionless.
The extent of injuries sustained by him were also not known immediately.
Videos available with the TOI, which were purportedly shot at the spot, also show a cop in uniform being badly beaten up by local residents, who also damaged chairs and flower pots in the police station.
ADG (Agra zone) Rajeev Krishna said that though the exact details were not immediately available, he has sought information for the same. “The situation was now under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid any further escalation of violence,” he added.
