David Moyes insists he has 'no problem' with Jonjo Shelvey's claim that Newcastle United have at least as good a squad as high-flying West Ham and the Hammers' boss is expecting a 'tough game' at St James' Park on Saturday.

Shelvey, a boyhood West Ham fan, got supporters of both sides talking on social media ahead of the early kick-off when he told talkSPORT that, on paper, he 'did not think their squad is better'.

West Ham currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League and Moyes' side are a whopping 23 points clear of Newcastle, who lie in 17th.

Shelvey did also acknowledge that Newcastle had not 'performed to the levels we can do' this season, but the midfielder's comments were put to Moyes at his pre-match press conference.

"I've not seen his comments but you're telling me that just now," Moyes told reporters on Zoom.

"I think the one thing you've got to do to partly show you've got a good team and a good squad is to have consistency.

"What we've had is a level of consistency throughout the year so we'll try and build on that if we can, but Newcastle have good players and have a good squad so I've got no problem with that at all."
