Your Weather Planner

A cold front continues to push through the state with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible. Some of the storms could reach severe limits with large hail and strong winds as the main threat. This weekend will be drier with a mix of sun and clouds along with cooler than normal temperatures. We expect morning lows to range from the 30s in North Texas to the 50s in South Texas, and then afternoon highs in the 60s and 70s across the whole state.

Today's Big Stories

1. Medical cannabis advocates push for more access in Texas

The House Public Health Committee unanimously approved House Bill 1535 last week. The bill would significantly increase who’s eligible for medical marijuana – as well as increase the allowed level of THC, the main psychoactive chemical in the plant. It’s a bipartisan move that’s creating hope for advocates who say Texas is behind the curve when it comes to expanding medical cannabis.

2. As weather warms, changing air quality may aid COVID-19 transmission

As emergency rooms and intensive care units flooded with patients last spring, there was tentative hope the summer months would help slow the march of the coronavirus. But as the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths surged in southern and western states, it became clear no such relief was coming.

3. Del Rio officials rescue group of migrants from the Rio Grande

The risks migrants are willing to take to come to the United States were clearly evident when a group of migrants had to be saved from the river by officers of the Val Verde County Sheriff Office, DPS, and Border Patrol.

4. Texas House grants initial passage of permitless handgun carry bill

House Republicans gave initial passage to the permitless carry of handguns, making it one step closer to becoming a law, something Ross opposes. In a 84-56 vote, the Texas House advanced House Bill 1927, a measure that would do away with license to carry laws.
