Norwich City are promoted to the Premier League

Championship: Swansea come from two goals down to draw with Wycombe. It’s a result that isn’t much use to either side but has catapulted Norwich City back into the Premier League. Congratulations to Daniel Farke and his troops who bounce straight back into the top flight following their relegation last season.

Full-time: Newcastle 3-2 West Ham

Premier League: It’s all over at St James’ Park, where Newcastle have emerged victorious by the odd goal of five in the third consecutive Saturday lunchtime Premier League humdinger. They pull nine points clear of the relegation zone, having got a late scare from 10-man West Ham. David Moyes’ side stay in fourth place, a point clear of Chelsea who have played one game fewer.

Premier League: Newcastle substitution: Andy Carroll on for Joelinton, who opened the scoring for Newcastle.

Premier League: Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy has just been booked for something or other. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess he was time-wasting. There are two of the added eight minutes remaining.

Championship: I’ll happily stand corrected on this but Sheffield Wednesday look to be heading to the third division for the first time in my lifetime (I’ll be raising my bat to the pavilion in two years, with a bit of luck) and possibly ever. Tyreeq Bakinson has just equalised for Bristol City at Hillsborough, where it’s 1-1.

Premier League: Down by the technical area, Steve Bruce’s eyes almost pop out of his head as he sees the fourth official signal eight minutes of added time. That seems a little excessive although there were several substitutions plus a couple of breaks in play for treatment to various players.

Premier League: Things go from great to bad to worse for West Ham, as Jesse Lingard limps off and is replaced by Manuel Lanzini. It looks like it might be a hamstring injury, which would be a season-ender. West Ham fans will be hoping it’s just cramp. He is not feeling the back of his thigh, which I suppose is a good sign.

Championship: Luton have gone a goal ahead against Watford at Kenilworth Road, while Swansea have pulled one back against Wycombe, who lead them by the odd goal of three. It remains Brentford 0-0 Millwall and as things stand Norwich will get promoted to the Premier League without having to kick a ball in their game against Bournemouth tonight.

GOAL! Newcastle 3-2 West Ham (Willock 83 min)

Premier League: Just on for Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock puts Newcastle back in front! He got between two defenders to head home a Matt Ritchie cross from the left from about six yards out.

Premier League: Wow! Newcastle almost retake the lead, Jacob Murphy looks certain to score but Ben Johnson clears off the line.

GOAL! Newcastle 2-2 West Ham (Lingard 80pen)

Premier League: After a delay while Clark received treatment for an injury, Jesse Lingard smashes the ball home off the post to equalise for 10-man West Ham. Dubravka went the right way but there was no keeping that out.

Premier League: There’s a suggestion West Ham might get a VAR-induced penalty for handball at St James’s Park. I think it’s going to be given!

GOAL! Newcastle 2-1 West Ham (Diop 73)

Premier League: A downward header from an unmarked Issa Diop header from about 10 yards out gives West Ham a glimmer of hope. He was unmarked and the bounce of the ball beat Dubravka, who should have done a lot better.

Championship: Junior Bacuna puts Huddersfield two goals up at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest. He roofed the ball with a venomous shot from distance.

League One: League leaders Hull City equalise against Fleetwood, with Northern Ireland international Josh Magennis restoring parity.

Championship latest

  • Brentford 0-0 Millwall
  • Luton 0-0 Watford
  • Middlesbrough 1-2 QPR
  • Nottingham Forest 0-1 Huddersfield
  • Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Bristol City
  • Stoke City 0-0 Preston
  • Swansea City 0-2 Wycombe Wanderers
  • Norwich City v Bournemouth (8pm)

Premier League: Newcastle substitution: Allan Saint-Maximin limps off to be replaced by Callum Wilson. The Frenchman has been outstanding today, for the second game in a row since returning from injury.

Premier League: Much better from West Ham. Jesse Lingard tries to curl one around Dubravka and inside the upright from distance but fires well wide.

Premier League: A couple of corners in quick succession from West Ham come to naught as they search for a much-needed goal.

League One: In the game they’re all talking about, Blackpool have become the latest side to throw a spanner in the works of Sunderland’s automatic promotion push. Luke Garbutt has just put Blackpool ahead of Lee Johnson’s side at Bloomfield Road. The git.

Championship: My friend the top comedian and podcaster Elis James will be effing and jeffing loudly in his native Welsh in the small corner of South London he calls home - Wycombe Wanderers have just gone 2-0 up against his beloved Swansea City, courtesy of Gareth McCleary. To say Swans goalkeeper Freddie Woodman should have done better would be a considerable understatement.

Premier League: West Ham leave room at the back as they drive forward in search of a goal. Saint-Maximin charges into space and tees up Almiron, whose shot is blocked by Issa Diop.

Championship: A big goal at the Liberty Stadium, where Wycombe’s Admiral Muskwe has just smashed a bouncing ball past Freddie Woodman from outside the penalty area to put the visitors a goal up. That’s a fine strike.

Premier League: Newcastle midfielder Miguel Almiron tries a shot from distance that flashes a foot or two wide of the upright.

Premier League: West Ham kick off with quite the mountain to climb and only equipped with 10 men with which to ascend it.

Half-time at St James’ Park: Following their recent heroics, the West Ham of old have returned with a vengreance. Some calamitous defending means they are two goals and one man down against a Newcastle side who are well worth their comfortable lead.

Premier League: Newcastle attack on the break with a real spring in the collective step and West Ham back off. Joelinton’s low drive is held by Fabianski.

GOAL! Newcastle 2-0 West Ham (Joelinton 40)

Premier League: More slapstick from West Ham. Newcastle win a corner and the ball is sent into the penalty area. Fabianski jumps to make a routine catch but drops the ball. Joelinton is on hand to poke it home from a yard or two out.

Premier League: Already on a yellow card, Dawson lunges in on Saint-Maximin on the halfway line. The Newcastle man stays on his feet and keeps going, as Kevin Friend plays advantage. ASM jinks his way into the penalty area and unleashes a low diagonal effort. The ball is saved by Fabianski but cannons off the legs of Diop and rolls over the line. Insult is added to injury, when Friend produces a second yellow followed by a red for Dawson for his foul in the build-up. Remarkably, that’s the first dismissal of his career.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 West Ham (Diop og)

Premier League: It’s a double-whammy for West Ham, who go a goal behind and lose Craig Dawson to a red card.

Premier League: Despite there being plenty at stake for both sides and perhaps because the sun is shining over St James’ Park, there’s a bit of an end-of-season feel about the game between Newcastle and West Ham. It remains scoreless ... hold on, no it doesn’t!!!
