Shiroor Mutt will be over on Wednesday when the seer heading the Sode Vadiraja mutt will announce the name of the suitable ‘vatu’ (bachelor) to replace Sri Lakshmivara Tirtha, who passed away without appointing his successor on July 19, 2018.
The vatu has already been chosen and reportedly hails from Nidle near Dharmasthala.
He has been undergoing training from the past two years in mastering scriptures and will take over the reins of Shiroor mutt during the Ramanavami period.
Sri Lakshmivara Tirtha was the 30th saint after Sri Vamana Theertha in the guru parampara of Shiroor mutt and the Vatu will be the 31st.
Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha of Sode Vadiraja mutt had a few months back indicated the `Vatu’ hailing from the Shivalli Madhwa Brahmin sect is a Taulava and his family is into
Vedic rituals from long.
The successor has had modern education and is presently mastering the scriptures.
Sode Mutt is ‘dwandva’ mutt to Shiroor mutt that has been handling affairs of Shiroor mutt after the passing away of Sri Lakshmivara Tirtha.
The ‘dwandva’ mutt had successfully handled various legal and commercial issues of Shiroor mutt since the death of Sri Lakshmivara Tirtha.
The Dwandwa mutt has overseen renovation of the ‘moola’ Shiroor mutt, taken up renovation of the 250-year-old Santhyaru mutt, shaka mutt of Shiroor mutt and will take up renovation of Papuje mutt near Hiriyadka, that has the ‘vrindavan’ of earlier Shiroor mutt seers.
