Thomas Tuchel admitted he was a ‘little bit worried’ after Chelsea were held to a draw at home against Premier League relegation-battlers Brighton.

On the night Chelsea – and five other Premier League clubs – pulled out of the controversial European Super League, Tuchel’s side produced an underwhelming display at Stamford Bridge to draw 0-0 with Brighton.

The point sees Chelsea climb above West Ham into fourth in the Premier League but means the Blues have now won just one of their last four matches.

Tuchel said: ‘We are disappointed. We wanted to have the win and know how crucial these moments are. We wanted to be in a place number three after this game.

‘We did not make it and were lucky not to lose. We made big mistakes, looked tired, mentally tired. We did not deserve to win which is maybe for the first time since I come here.

‘We missed now two opportunities in home matches (Chelsea lost to West Brom earlier in the month), this worries me a little bit. but we have to keep on going.’

It was Brighton who looked more likely to win the match in west London, with Danny Welbeck striking the post from distance and substitute Adam Lallana coming close late on.

But the Seagulls will see the draw as another big step towards avoiding relegation. They are now 16th in the table – seven points above the drop zone – with six matches remaining.

Brighton boss Graham Potter said: ‘We could have won it – we hit the post. We started well, but a couple of errors gave them some chances, but I felt we had the bigger chances in the second half.

‘Our boys were fantastic, and it shows that we are fighting for every point. We’ve got so many games to play and we’re not thinking about anything other than we need to fight for every point and every game.’
