Weekend weather
It's called a reverse temperature trend; it happens when a morning cold front moves in. Cooler air in the wake of the frontal line doesn't allow for any heat recovery. That setup often results in flurries after sunset. It's still April! Check out Cindy Day's detailed 7-day forecast that takes us to the final few days of the month.
No muss, no fuss Greek chicken salad
This week's recipe picks are all about ease (and lack of clean-up) from the cookbook Sheet Pan Everything. The book is loaded with simple, no-fuss, delicious dinner recipes like this warm Greek chicken salad that will have you serving up a fresh healthy meal in under 30 minutes. With its five-ingredient vinaigrette and minimal salad components, the dish comes together quickly and can be made almost entirely using local products.
Veggify your taco night
Since it's Earth Day, why not go plant-based for dinner tonight with this mouthwatering recipe for cauliflower tacos? Plant-based alternatives are going to be key to help sustainably feed the nearly 8 billion humans who populate our planet without having to sacrifice flavours and textures we love.
Happy Earth Day
In honour of Earth Day and all the amazing things our planet provides, we've compiled a special collection of stories about how Atlantic Canadians are working to restore our Earth. That's not all, here are some other ways our East Coast communities are stepping up to adopt new technologies, rethink spaces and help to restore our beautiful planet so it can be enjoyed by generations to come:
- Antigonish, N.S., is getting charged up by installing electric vehicle charging stations as part of their commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
- Tignish, O’Leary and Alberton, three municipalities in West Prince, P.E.I, are heading to the light with plans to switch some of their municipal operations over to solar energy.
- Newfoundland and Labrador is exploring wind and electrification to provide a greener future for its offshore oil sector.
- The Port Morien Wildlife Association (PMWA) is teaming up with the Clear Your Gear initiative to take part in their fishing gear recycling program to keep discarded gear from being left along shores and help to protect wildlife, the environment and other people.
- Electric vehicle interest is on the rise. Dive into the four types of electric vehicles to see which suits your lifestyle the best.
Hack your way to a clean home
Is it weird that every spring I get the urge to power clean? I've always been clean and tidy, borderline OCD to be honest (past roommates and my husband would probably agree). Every year around this time I break out my cleaning caddy and go to town, room by room. If you're overwhelmed with where to begin, Terry Hatcher of Merry Maids has these suggestions and cleaning hacks to make the job manageable.
Laughter is the best medicine
You may know Baikie and Ross Humby from Labrador's first television series on Discovery, Last Stop Garage. The familiar duo is back in a new comedy web series based in North West River, N.L. The series The Last Stop to Nowhere? has the guys doing short, humourous improv bits about Labrador culture and heritage. The shows, which will be available on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, also feature original music from Baikie and Humby, both lifelong musicians.
