World Snooker Championship: Neil Robertson & Kyren Wilson progress into Crucible quarter-finals

Third seed Neil Robertson moved into the quarter-finals of the World Championship with a clinical 13-9 win over world number 14 Jack Lisowski.

Robertson, the 2010 world champion, began with a stylish 126 and a break of 87 extended his 9-7 lead by two frames.

Lisowski rallied, but scores of 70 and 90 saw the Australian through.

Robertson always looked in control, finishing a gripping second-round match with a total of four tons and seven half-centuries.

Seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry described Robertson's victory as "utterly ruthless".

But the 39-year-old said there was still room for improvement.

"I should have made six or seven tons," said Robertson, who faces last year's runner-up Kyren Wilson in the quarter-finals.

"I had a little bit of luck with a couple of flukes but made them count.

"At times Jack threw everything at me. I was impressed with his patience and safety and if he had been playing someone who wasn't playing as well as me then he would probably have gone through.

"I am certainly good enough to win the event but it is about keeping level-headed. The key is turning good sessions into great sessions or bad sessions into good sessions."

The century helped the 45-year-old's confidence return and he stayed in touch by taking the next two with scores of 107 and 82 to trail 10-6 prior to the game's conclusion on Saturday evening.

Last season's runner-up Kyren Wilson became the third man through to the quarter-finals, resisting a stirring fightback from five-time Crucible semi-finalist Barry Hawkins to earn a 13-10 victory.

World number six Wilson led 9-7 overnight having surrendered a 9-4 lead, and Kent potter Hawkins managed to level the scores at 9-9 with breaks of 107 and 53.

But Kettering man Wilson, 29, then stepped up a level, with scores of 90 and 102 getting him over the line.

Wilson, who faces the in-form Robertson in the last eight, told BBC Sport: "I was slow out of the traps. You know what to expect from Barry. He's got a great record here. I'm pleased with the way I finished it off.

"That is the most pleasing thing; it's great to score centuries early on and in the middle of a match but even better to do it under pressure at the end."

Elsewhere, three-time champion Mark Selby seized control of his second second-round match against Northern Ireland's Mark Allen, taking a 6-2 lead into Sunday's second session.
