Uttar Pradesh: 407 booked for poll violence in Amethi, three held in Mirzapur

As many as 407 people were booked by Amethi police on Wednesday in connection with poll related violence. The police have launched a massive manhunt to arrest all the named accused and trace unidentified miscreants.

LUCKNOW: As many as 407 people were booked by Amethi police on Wednesday in connection with poll related violence. The police have launched a massive manhunt to arrest all the named accused and trace unidentified miscreants.
Superintendent of police, Amethi, Dinesh Singh said that during Monday panchayat polls in the district, at two places candidates in fray and their rivals tried to decamp with ballot boxes while in two other instances ink was thrown inside ballot boxes.

Policemen and polling staff were also attacked. Those booked belong to the area where the Election Commission has ordered repoll.
Singh further said that in Mohganj area 52 identified and 250 unidentified people have been booked for looting ballot boxes and attacking police force, while in Jamon area, gram pradhan candidate in fray Sushma Jaiswal and her husband Babulal along with his associates poured ink in ballot boxes and also tried to loot them, following which an FIR was lodged against 100, including the pradhan and her husband.
In Mirzapur district, police have booked 10 identified and 80 unidentified people for attacking police teams during panchayat polls in Ghamapur area.
SHO, Vindhyachal, Sheshdhar Pandey told TOI that three have been arrested and efforts to trace others were underway.
