Karnataka: 112 Tumakuru cops test Covid-positive, vaccine helps them cope

Over 112 police officials of different ranks in Tumakuru district have tested positive. Of these, 110 received both doses of the vaccine and are either asymptomatic or show mild symptoms and are in otherwise good health.

BENGALURU: Over 112 police officials of different ranks in Tumakuru district have tested positive. Of these, 110 received both doses of the vaccine and are either asymptomatic or show mild symptoms and are in otherwise good health.
Superintendent of police, Tumakuru Kona Vamsi Krishna said receiving both doses helped the cops who tested positive. “Their health is good compared to other Covid patients who haven’t received the vaccine so far.
Of the 110, only two are undergoing treatment in hospital and the rest are home-quarantined,” he said.
He added that 97% of police officials from Tumakuru district have received both doses.
“Tumakuru police force has 1,996 personnel, of which 1,888received both doses and 92 have been exempted from getting the shot on medical grounds. Only 16 police officials are to receive the second dose which they will get in a couple of days,” he added.
While Bengaluru recorded eight deaths of police personnel in the second wave, Bengaluru Rural police saw their first death on Friday. Mari Machaiah, sub-inspector attached to District Armed Reserve in Byadarahalli, succumbed in a private hospital.
