Kanyakumari LS bypoll: Congress set for easy win
MADURAI: Congress candidate V Vijayakumar was all set for a comfortable win against two-time Union minister and BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan in the Kanyakumari LS byelection after he led by a margin of over 1.3 lakh votes. Vijayakumar will succeed his late father H Vasanthakumar, whose death due to Covid-19 necessitated the bypoll. His win will help retain the tally of Congress LS MPs from Tamil Nadu at 8 and that of the DMK led alliance at 38.
Among the factors that went in Congress’ favour was an ad released by Tuticorin V O C Port Trust seeking expression of interest to establish the International Container Transhipment Terminal in Kanyakumari district, which has earlier attracted protests from the coastal populace.
