YEREVAN. – The silence of international organizations during the recent 44-day war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) also led to massive human rights violations. The Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, said this at Thursday sitting of the National Assembly, during the latter’s discussion of the report on the work done by the ombudsman's office in 2020.

The ombudsman admitted that he had spoken openly about this with his international counterparts. "I openly tell the international organizations: ‘It was your silence that led to it, as by your silence, you caused irreversible damage to the human rights system,’" Tatoyan stressed.

According to him, the citizens of Armenia and the people of Artsakh clearly realized that the war was stopped not because international human rights organizations intervened, but because there was a specific political intervention. "Human rights organizations retreated, leaving everything to politics," the ombudsman of Armenia added.
