Maharashtra: Wardha, Akola to see stricter restrictions after fresh surge

While Covid-19 cases have declined in Nagpur city, other parts of Vidarbha are yet to get respite. Wardha, and Chandrapur in Nagpur division and Akola, Yavatmal, and Amravati in Amravati division are reporting fresh surge in cases and deaths despite the lockdown-like restrictions imposed by the state government.

NAGPUR: While Covid-19 cases have declined in Nagpur city, other parts of Vidarbha are yet to get respite.
Wardha, and Chandrapur in Nagpur division and Akola, Yavatmal, and Amravati in Amravati division are reporting fresh surge in cases and deaths despite the lockdown-like restrictions imposed by the state government.

On Thursday, Akola district collector Jitendra Papalkar indicated that strict lockdown like restrictions will soon be imposed in the district.
In Wardha, essential shops will remain closed even between 7am and 11 am from May 8. Only home delivery will be allowed.
Similar decisions are likely to be taken in Amravati, Chandrapur and Buldhana in the next two-three days.
Amravati reported 1,189 new cases and 20 deaths on Thursday and now 9,673 patients are under treatment, which is highest-ever for the district. Akola reported 11 deaths, Wardha 25, Chandrapur 15 and Yavatmal 16 on Thursday. Each of these districts is having more than 5,000 patients under treatment.
Nagpur district reported 4,900 cases on Thursday. Overall, Vidarbha region reported 12,754 new cases, taking the caseload to 9.35 lakh. Recovery count is increasing. On Thursday, it was 15,291. Overall, 7.82 lakh patients have recovered so far.

Chandrapur recorded its highest-ever recoveries of 2,126 patients in a day on Thursday. With fewer new cases and more recoveries, the recovery rate of Vidarbha has reached 83.5%.
The number of patients under treatment has come down under 1.40 lakh. Now, less than 15% of total Covid-19 patients are under treatment.
The region conducted 60,359 tests were done in the region. Testing increased on Thursday as Wednesday (May 5) was a full working weekday. Amravati division has increased testing significantly.
Akola: Of the 4,239 tests done in the last 24 hours, 680 came positive, taking the caseload to 43,801. Recoveries reached 36,860 after 459 patients were discharged on Thursday. Toll mounted to 754 after 11 more deaths. Now, 6187 patients are under treatment.
Washim: The district reported 496 new cases, 498 recoveries and six deaths on Thursday. The caseload is 30,517, including 25,941 recoveries, and the toll is 324. There are 4,251 patients under treatment.
Buldhana: The district conducted 4,458 tests, of which 641 returned positive on Thursday. The caseload is 68,844. With record 1,351 recoveries in a day, the total reached 62,937. Two deaths on Thursday took the toll to 449. The district has 5458 patients under treatment.
Gondia: Of the 1,426 tests done on Thursday, 397 came positive. The caseload is 35,737, including 30,721 recoveries after addition of 603 on Thursday. Eight deaths were reported. Now, the district has 4,439 patients under treatment.
Bhandara: Number of new cases (527) was fewer than number of recoveries (715) for the fourth consecutive day. There were 16 deaths, which took the toll to 940. Now, 8,032 patients are under treatment.
Gadchiroli: Caseload reached 24,160 after addition of 562 new cases. With addition of 542 recoveries, the total reached 19,077. Six deaths on Thursday took the toll to 489. Now, 4,594 patients are under treatment.
Yavatmal: With 16 more deaths, the district’s toll reached 1,418. Of the 6,686 tests done in 24 hours, 919 came positive. There are 6,937 active cases. The caseload is 59,634. Recoveries reached 51,282, including 983 on Thursday. Test positivity Rate is 13.10% and case fatality rate is 2.37 %.
Chandrapur: There were record 2,126 recoveries, taking the total to 50,805 on Thursday. The day also witnessed 1,508 cases and 15 deaths, leaving 16,098 patients under treatment. The caseload has climbed to 67,939, while toll to 1,036.
Amravati: The district set a new high of 1,189 cases that took the caseload to 71,883 on Thursday. Twenty deaths took the toll to 1,069 while 519 recoveries took the aggregate to 61,141. Now, 9,673 patients are under treatment.
Wardha: District registered 25 deaths, 935 new cases and 607 recoveries on Thursday. Now the caseload is 39,407, recoveries 31,738 and toll 951, leaving 6,718 active cases.
