One held with four vials of remdesivir in Bharuch
Mubin Chauhan in police custody
Surat: The local crime branch of Bharuch police nabbed a man for the illegal sale of remdesivir injections on Wednesday.
Police said that they had received information about a man named Mubin Chauhan selling the injections near his house at Vasila society in Bharuch town. Based on the information, cops laid a trap for Chauhan by sending a dummy customer to purchase the injection from him.
When Chauhan arrived at a pre-decided spot to sell the vials, cops nabbed him.
Four vials of Remdesivir were found on Chauhan. When questioned, Chauhan told cops that he had got the vials from Maqbool Chauhan, who is absconding. Chauhan also told police that he was planning to sell each vial for Rs 20,000.
The accused was later handed over to B Division police station where an offence was registered against him and his father. Police have appealed to citizens to not purchase such life-saving medicines and oxygen cylinders from those involved in their illegal sale.
“We understand that people need these medicines only under emergency circumstances, but instead of encouraging such people by purchasing from them at high prices, public should inform us,” said a police official.
